Workshop on the Investment Climate in Kyrgyzstan: Investing into Sustainable Energy Sources

Jointly organised by the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Energy Charter Secretariat

19 November 2015, Energy Charter Secretariat, 56 Boulevard de la Woluwe, B-1200, Brussels

A Workshop on Investment Climate of the Kyrgyz Republic was jointly organised by the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Energy Charter Secretariat on 19 November 2015 in Brussels.

The aim of the workshop was to illustrate the path of the economic reforms undertaken by the Kyrgyz Government in order to establish a stable and predictable investment climate. The representatives of the Agency on Promotion of Investments under the Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy shared the recent achievements in creating favourable conditions for foreign investors and outlined priority areas for cooperation. The energy sector is considered as one of the priorities due to a vast hydropower potential and significant coal deposits. The strategy of the European Union for the region of Central Asia was also discussed, focussing on the ongoing activities in the field of energy and water management. The Energy Charter Secretariat briefed the participants on the cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, including investment and energy efficiency reviews of the country and its role in regional energy cooperation in Central Asia.
