The International Energy Charter contributes to Astana Energy Ministerial

The Ministerial Conference “Meeting the Challenge of Sustainable Energy” took place in Astana, Kazakhstan on 11 June 2017. The Energy Ministerial meeting opened the work of the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development to address broad issues related to energy security, trade & infrastructure, the energy-climate, food nexus, and the development of renewable energy. The Forum is hosted by the Government of Kazakhstan under the auspices of the specialised Astana EXPO 2017 organised under the theme of “Future Energy” which is open from 10 June to 10 September 2017.

Following the plenary session on the challenge of sustainable energy, the ministerial dialogue was continued in four parallel sets to address energy security, energy-climate-water nexus, renewable energy, and new technologies and innovations. Secretary General of the International Energy Charter Dr Urban Rusnák contributed to the discussions on energy security, regional trade and infrastructure along with Ministers of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Hungary. The Eighth Forum on Sustainable Energy during the next three days will focus on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals focusing on regional cooperation and interplay between energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
