Secretary General Dr Urban Rusnák received the letter with the request and Government’s confirmation of Sierra Leone’s acceptance of the text of the 2015 Declaration adopted in The Hague.
The Government of Sierra Leone, by its decision to adhere to the International Energy Charter has shown its strong commitment to developing and strengthening global and regional energy collaboration especially as a member of the ECOWAS and in all other related activities of mutual interest between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the International Energy Charter.
Sierra Leone has also expressed its determination to cooperate with the Energy Charter Secretariat within the 2019 ECOWAS Cooperation Plans to enhance its energy environment and policies in order to attract more investment in the energy sector.
Republic of Sierra Leone in a member of ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) - CEDEAO (Communauté Economique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest) which is an Observer to the Energy Charter Conference since 2015. As of December 2018 eight of fifteen Member States of the ECOWAS are Observers as individual countries (BENIN, BURKINA FASO, The GAMBIA, MALI, NIGER, NIGERIA, SENEGAL and SIERRA LEONE).
