Industry Advisory Panel meeting discusses global outreach in Brussels

On 1 March 2016, the Energy Charter Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) held its first meeting of 2016 at the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels. IAP members validated the membership requests of UNEF (Spanish Photovoltaic Association) and ANPIER (Spanish Association of Photovoltaic Energy Producers).

The meeting discussed the globalisation and outreach of the Industry Advisory Panel and a proposal to establish a regional IAP Chapter in China. The choice of China was motivated by the amount of Chinese overseas investments in the energy sector and the role the Energy Charter Treaty could play if China becomes a member.

The IAP also provided its views on draft Energy Charter Guidelines on Investment Mediation. Finally, the IAP was informed about the perspectives for new Multilateral Transit Agreement.

The next IAP meeting will take place in Zurich on 28 June 2016 and will be hosted by AXPO.

The Energy Charter Industry Advisory Panel was set up by the Energy Charter Conference in 2004 as a means to strengthen the dialogue with the private sector on the main issues of the Energy Charter Process.
