EU-China dialogue at the European Business Summit

The European Business Summit kicked off on the 23 May 2018 for a two-day conference in Brussels. One of the roundtables was co-hosted by the Mission of China to the EU and focused on "Vision and Action: EU-China Dialogue on the Belt and Road Initiative".

The aim of the event is to set out the vision and actions for cooperation between Europe and China under Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) focusing on sustainable infrastructure, connectivity and investment. The dialogue will expand collaboration by identifying common goals and create a more open and efficient platform for international cooperation between key European and Chinese stakeholders.

Around 200 targeted audience members were in attendance, mainly from EU institutions and governments of EU member states, financial institutions, international organisations, governments of countries along the BRI, enterprises, industrial associations, and academics.

Energy Charter Secretary-General Dr Urban Rusnák was invited to attend the European Business Summit (EBS) and addressed with a keynote speech on the topic of the EU-China dialogue on the BRI. He emphasised that Energy Charter Secretariat has a long-standing cooperation with China, inclusive of ongoing contact with a full spectrum of stakeholders within the Chinese government, the energy industry as well as society more broadly. He stated that the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) is fully compatible with China's current domestic and foreign investment priorities in relation to the expansion of the country's energy policies.

Dr Rusnák also met with H.E. Mr Zhang Ming, Ambassador and Head of Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Union, and Dr Sun Xiansheng, Secretary-General of the International Energy Forum during the EBS conference.
