East Mediterranean Gas conference in Cyprus

The Energy Charter Secretariat was invited to participate in the CYPGasTech conference which was held in Cyprus on 16-18 October 2018 under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism of the Republic of Cyprus. The meeting gathered experts and industry members active in the gas sector of the East Mediterranean region.

Ms Danai Oikonomakou, the Investment Coordinator within the Investment Unit, talked about how the Energy Charter Treaty and the Secretariat can assist countries to analyse and remove existing barriers to the legal regime which can impede the establishment of energy investment. The instruments developed for this purpose, such as the Investment Facilitation Toolbox and the Energy Investment Risk Assessment-EIRA, were also presented, along with the key practices and measures that have been identified by the Secretariat to help countries reduce investment-related risks and develop a resilient investment environment. In addition, Ms Oikonomakou showcased how the Secretariat can further function as a forum for the exchange of views between governments and the industry, through the Investment Promotion Centre and the Industry Advisory Panel.
