Albania assumes the Chairmanship of the Energy Charter Conference for 2019

As of 1 January 2019, Albania assumed the Chairmanship of the Energy Charter Conference for the year. The Conference works on an annually rotating basis, and each year a new country takes over leadership to direct the highest decision-making body of the Energy Charter process

In line with a rapidly evolving energy world and also with domestic priorities, Albania has expressed interest in promoting a global vision in advancing the development of a low-carbon society. Albania views the energy transition as an opportunity both nationally and globally.

The priorities for Albania in 2019 will be improving governance for energy efficiency, promoting deployment of renewable energy, facilitating regional connectivity, and transit & energy market integration. These topics will be the focus for the 30th Ministerial Meeting of the Energy Charter Conference to be held in Tirana on 10-11 December 2019. Under the Chairmanship, Albania will also host the International Energy Charter Forum on Diversification of Energy Sources, Renewables and Energy Efficiency in May 2019.
